What is Cagrilintide?
Cagrilintide, development code AM833, is a long-acting analog of amylin. Amylin is a 37 amino acid hormone that the beta cells of the pancreas release together with insulin. The natural hormone clumps into fibrils and is cleared within minutes, which makes it hard to work with. Cagrilintide was redesigned for stability and carries a fatty acid chain that binds albumin, which gives it a half-life of about a week. It activates the amylin receptors as well as the calcitonin receptor.
