Description
Orexin B nasal spray for research: 5 mg of Orexin B dissolved in 5 ml saline (about 90% NaCl, a little bacteriostatic water to preserve it), in a 5 ml amber glass bottle with a nasal spray pump. What is Orexin B?
Orexin B, also called hypocretin-2, is a linear 28 amino acid neuropeptide made in the lateral hypothalamus from the same prepro-orexin precursor as Orexin A. It was identified in 1998 as an endogenous ligand of the orphan G protein-coupled receptors OX1R and OX2R. Orexin B binds both receptors but prefers OX2R. The orexin system is a main switch for wake, feeding and reward signalling, which is why loss of orexin neurons is the hallmark of narcolepsy type 1.
