Description
PT-141 nasal spray for research: 10 mg of bremelanotide dissolved in 5 ml saline (about 90% NaCl, a little bacteriostatic water to preserve it), in a 5 ml amber glass bottle with a nasal spray pump. What is PT-141 (Bremelanotide)?
PT-141, international name bremelanotide, is a cyclic peptide of seven amino acids that activates melanocortin receptors, mainly MC4R and MC3R. It grew out of the Melanotan 2 research programme and differs from Melanotan 2 at one point only: Melanotan 2 ends as an amide, PT-141 ends as a free acid. Where Melanotan 2 is studied for skin pigmentation, PT-141 is studied for the melanocortin system in the brain. Nasal delivery is one of the routes used in that research because it avoids first-pass metabolism and can reach systemic levels quickly.
