Description
Oxytocin nasal spray for research: 1 mg of oxytocin dissolved in 5 ml saline (about 90% NaCl, a little bacteriostatic water to preserve it), in a 5 ml amber glass bottle with a nasal spray pump. An independent lab confirms at least 99% purity by HPLC and mass spectrometry, and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) comes with every batch.
What is Oxytocin?
Oxytocin is a peptide hormone of nine amino acids (Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2) with a disulfide bridge between its two cysteines. It is made in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary. It acts on the oxytocin receptor (OXTR), found in the brain, uterus, breast tissue and heart. In 1953 Vincent du Vigneaud worked out its structure and synthesized it, the first peptide hormone ever made in a lab, and he received the 1955 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for it. Nasal delivery is a common route in behavioural research because oxytocin does not cross the blood-brain barrier well after peripheral injection.

The concentration is 0.2 mg/ml. One press delivers about 0.12 ml, so about 24 mcg of oxytocin, and the bottle holds about 40 sprays. No reconstitution is needed. Keep it upright in the fridge.
